VF-21 (Fighter Squadron 21) is a United States Navy Fighter Squadron known as the "Freelancers". The squadron was established on 9 April 1945 and is part of Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5). VF-21 flies the F/A-18E Super Hornet and is based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. The squadron has participated in several conflicts, including the Korean War, Vietnam War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom. VF-21 was decommissioned on 6 October 1996, but was reactivated on 1 October 2003. The squadron has received numerous awards and commendations for their service and achievements.
